From the desk of President, M.A.G.A.,

The cultural base for the expression of all body movements are titled as "Gymnastics". Interestingly, the Rules of Gymnastics is concerned with education, Training & activities emphasizing the Physical as well as psychological wellbeing of an athlete. "Physical Education" & "Sport" are the two pillars of interest in the sports of Gymnastics. Gymnastics is one of the oldest Olympic sports & was first practiced at the ancient Olympic games where the competitors performed variety of events including running.

Gymnastics is the one of the most popular sports in the Olympic programme. Gymnastics competitions are the demonstration of strength, beauty & courage.

In India, Gymnastics Federation of India was founded in 1950 whereas M.A.G.A. was founded in 1958. It is now strongly supported by more than 36 district including sports bodies. The first participation in the National Gymnastics championships was in the year 1961 at Patiala, Punjab where Maharashtra Team won bronze medal.
The great Dr. D.M. Kalyanpurkar, the master & mentor of many of gymnasts, Mallakhamb & Yoga players along with other sports lovers founded the State gymnastics association in 1965.

Values & beliefs statement of MAGA:

  • MAGA is dedicated to develop gymnastics in the state & its values by encouraging participation, growth and personal success for everyone.
  • MAGA also believes that Gymnastics should be a positive experience for all the school children of Maharashtra
  • MAGA has international gymnasts, international judges, international coaches.

Future plans of MAGA:

  1. To establish Gymnastics academy,
  2. To develop 7 centers in 7 zones of Maharashtra with all facilities,
  3. To start Diploma courses in Gymnastics,
  4. To conduct international judges & coaches certificate courses.
  5. To start with conducting SAARC, South East Asian Countries.
  6. To conduct training camps for top players under the guidance of foreign experts &
  7. To conduct foreign training programmes for gymnasts & coaches of the state.

I am proud to state that in its Golden Jubilee year Gymnastics activity is percolated up to grass root level by the network of MAGA.
Maharashtra has a long tradition & healthy legacy of Gymnastics activities. Gymnastics is promoted with sincere & consistent efforts of its dedicated members which resulted into many qualified National & International Judges, coaches & Players during past years.
MAGA wishes to bring professional technological advances in the coaching, training & organization of competitions in future.
